WVU Football Signee Earns National Honor from Maxwell Football Club

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Four-star WVU football signee Matt Sieg has been named the National High School Player of the Year by the Maxwell Football Club. The Fort Cherry High School standout put up massive numbers in his senior campaign. He accumulated 2,259 all-purpose yards and 30 touchdowns on offense. He also shined on the defensive side of the ball by racking up 45 tackles.

Sieg committed and signed with Rich Rodriguez and the Mountaineers on National Signing Day back in December 2025. He was recruited as a safety, but may be given the opportunity to play both sides of the ball in Morgantown.

The Maxwell Football Club is a non-profit organization based in the United States that focuses on promoting the sport of football and recognizing outstanding achievements in the game.

The club is known for its annual awards, including the Maxwell Award, which honors the most outstanding player in college football.

It provides scholarships to student-athletes and supports various football-related initiatives. The club also engages in community outreach and promotes the values of sportsmanship and teamwork.

The Maxwell Football Club was founded in 1935 by Bert Bell, then a rising football executive and later commissioner of the NFL, to honor his close friend Robert “Tiny” Maxwell. Maxwell was a celebrated college
football player at Swarthmore College, a respected official, and an influential sports journalist whose toughness, integrity, and leadership helped guide the sport through one of its most pivotal eras.
