WVU’s Cyncir Bowers Set to Enter NCAA Transfer Portal

By: Clark Johnson | WV Sports Chat

Morgantown, WV – Earlier this morning, the Mountaineer running back room suffered yet another loss to the NCAA Transfer Portal. In a post on X, Cycnir Bowers announced his intentions to enter the portal, leaving the Mountaineers without all of their backfield contributors from 2025.

Bowers, a Pennsylvania native, had an extensive role in the backfield due to injuries that decimated the running back room. Tallying 249 rushing yards and 2 touchdowns on 63 carries, Bowers flashed speed that had many fans excited for his future in Morgantown.

He will have 2 seasons of eligibility remaining.

With the departure of Bowers, the Mountaineers will now be without 7 of their top 8 rushers from 2025 – Scotty Fox being the only one returning. Rich Rodriguez and staff will now likely have to look to the portal for experience in the running back room.
