Neal Brown a Leading Candidate for Open Head Coaching Job

Update 6:00pm: Neal Brown has been hired by North Texas.

Per reports by multiple media outlets, including On3 and Dave Campbell’s Texas Football, former WVU football head coach Neal Brown is a top candidate to fill the same role at North Texas.

If hired, Brown would be replacing Eric Morris, who was hired to fill the head coaching vacancy at Oklahoma State.

Being hired at North Texas would give the former Mountaineer coach a chance to resurrect his career. In six seasons at West Virginia, Brown went 37-35 overall and only 25-28 in Big 12 play. However, his teams were only able to surpass the six-win mark once during his tenure and they often struggled in games against ranked opponents.

The Danville, Kentucky native came to Morgantown after a successful four-year stint at Troy where he went 35-16 overall, including three straight ten-win seasons.

Brown spent this past season as a Special Assistant to Steve Sarkisian at Texas.
