WVU Football Faces Injury Challenges Ahead of Utah Matchup

By: Jonathan K. Martin | WV Sports Chat

As West Virginia prepares for a critical matchup against Utah on Saturday, the team is grappling with a growing injury list that could significantly impact their performance against the Utes.

Head coach Rich Rodriguez provided the latest updates on Tuesday during his weekly press conference, shedding light on the statuses of key running backs Tye Edwards and Cyncir Bowers, both of whom are listed as questionable for this weekend.

Running back Tye Edwards has been sidelined with a hip injury that forced him to miss the recent game against Kansas. Despite practicing throughout the week and traveling with the team, Edwards felt unable to play after pregame warmups, a decision that proved costly as WVU struggled to establish a ground game.

Cyncir Bowers, another key contributor in the backfield, is also listed as questionable after suffering a concerning hit during the Kansas game that sent his helmet flying nearly five yards. The vicious collision has placed Bowers in the concussion protocol, casting significant doubt about his availability this weekend.

With Jahiem White out for the season – and Edwards and Bowers questionable – that leaves WVU’s running back rotation with Clay Ash, Diore Hubbard and Tyler Jacklich.

West Virginia will release an official player injury report on Wednesday night, with an updated reporting coming again late Thursday and Friday.
