West Virginia running back Tye Edwards has been thrust into the spotlight following his standout performance in last weekends Backyard Brawl against Pitt.
Former NFL coach and current Barstool Sports personality Jon Gruden, known for his deep appreciation of running backs, drew from his extensive coaching background and personal history with the position to commend Edwards’ efforts in WVU’s overtime victory.
Edwards stepped up significantly when the Mountaineers needed him most. In the game against Pitt, Edwards rushed for 141 yards and scored three touchdowns, including the game-winner in overtime, securing a 31-24 win for the Mountaineers.
“Here’s a guy Tye Edwards who starts at Georgia Military Academy, then he goes to Hutchinson Community College, then he’s at UTSA, then he’s at Northern Iowa,” Gruden said. “He’s the backup running back, (Jahiem) White gets hurt and running back coach Larry Porter, who’s been around a long time, 27 years veteran, he gets his hands on this kid Edwards and they go to work.”

My dad coached running backs. I love running backs. I'm always looking for running backs that blew me away.

This past weekend in college football, two backs stood out to me: @WVUfootball's Tye Edwards and @MizzouFootball's Ahmad Hardy!
