No Small Effort: Javon Sparks Grizzlies with Standout Performance

Former West Virginia University guard Javon Small had 17 points, nine assists, four rebounds and a steal in Memphis’ 105-82 Summer League win over the Los Angeles Clippers on Sunday.

With the Grizzlies’ starters not in the lineup, the rookie saw 22 minutes of action and had a larger role. He was 5-of-9 from the field, 3-of-5 from beyond the arc and a perfect 4-of-4 from the charity stripe.

Despite coming off the bench, Small was efficient, capping the first quarter with a buzzer-beating reverse layup after a slick behind-the-back dribble.

Small missed the first three games of Summer League action due to a groin injury. In two appearances, he averaged 17.0 points, 7.0 assists and 4.5 rebounds in 23.5 minutes per game.
