CHARLESTON, W.Va.- Tre Mitchell scored 23 points to lead Best Virginia past Herd That, 82–75, on Sunday evening at the Charleston Coliseum, advancing to the West Virginia Regional Final.
James Reese V tallied 20 points and Kedrian Johnson had 18 points for Best Virginia.
Jacorey Williams led Herd That with 24 points. Xavier Mumford finished with 18 points, while Derek Cooke had 11 points and 15 rebounds.
Mitchell scored the first five points for Best Virginia. JD Weatherspoon had six points on 3-for-3 shooting in the opening quarter.
After one quarter, Best Virginia led 22-18. In the second quarter, Best Virginia outscored Herd That 22-13 to take a a 44-31 lead at the break.
Best Virginia controlled the game in the third quarter but just as they did on Friday, the offensive stalled in the fourth quarter.
In the Elam Ending, Best Virginia turned the ball over four times and made just one of its first nine shots. However, they managed to make three throws.
Johnson sank a 3-pointer to pull Best Virginia within four of the Elam Ending. Herd That refused to go away and cut the lead to five before Mitchell made a midrange jumper to seal the victory.
Best Virginia shot 60 percent from the floor in the first quarter and 53 percent in the second.
Best Virginia will take on Elite Nation Tuesday night at the Charleston Coliseum at 7:00 p.m. ET.
