Snubbed in the Rankings? WVU’s Nicco Marchiol Omitted from Top 40 QB List, Ranks Towards Bottom of Big 12 Returners

The Big 12 Conference social media account stirred the college football pot recently, sharing The Athletic’s 2025 College Football Quarterback Ratings, highlighting the fact ten of the top 40 on the list reside in the Big 12.

The rankings come from Antonio Morales and Sam Khan Jr. of The Athletic who rank every FBS quarterback who is the projected starter for the 2025 season.

One name left off the list? Nicco Marchiol.

Nicco Marchiol, who has emerged as a fan favorite for West Virginia, ranked 57th overall and 13th in the Big 12. He only ranks ahead of Tayven Jackson (UCF), Hauss Hejny (Oklahoma State), and McCae Hillstead (BYU) in the conference.

The low ranking isn’t new for Marchiol, though. Earlier this week, Brad Crawford of CBS Sports ranked him the 14th best signal caller in the Big 12.

Last season, Marchiol threw for 434 yards and five touchdowns while tossing two interceptions. He best outing was in late October on the road against Arizona, where he completed 18-22 passes for 198 yards and two touchdowns. He also rushed for 39 yards on 11 carries.
