The Big 12 Conference chose not to do the customary preseason media poll for the 2025 football season. However, that did not stop a group of Big 12 content creators, bloggers and a few media members from doing their own unofficial poll.
The Kansas State Wildcats landed the top spot in this poll. They were followed by Arizona State, Baylor, Texas Tech and Iowa State to round out the top five.
TCU, Utah and BYU, came in numbers six through eight. Then there were three teams tied for the number nine spot: Kansas, Houston and Colorado. Cincinnati, Oklahoma State, West Virginia, Arizona and UCF rounded out the rest of the league.

It was no surprise that the Mountaineers were ranked near the bottom of the conference. With over 70 new players on the roster, to go along with an entirely new coaching staff, there are a lot of unknowns in Morgantown. Vegas odds has WVU’s win total as low as five wins – depending on the betting site – and Phil Steele ranked the Mountaineers last in his 2025 College Football Preview magazine.
Needless to say, despite the official Big 12 Media poll not being released in 2025, there is plenty of bulletin board material to motivate West Virginia for the upcoming season.
Thanks to the Gamblin’ Gauchos Podcast for organizing this poll and allowing me to participate.
