West Virginia University baseball head coach Steve Sabins finds himself at the helm of an exciting roster rebuild, bolstered by two standout pitchers featured on the Division II list of top performers with the lowest ERAs.
Ian Korn, hailing from Seton Hill University, is among the notable transfers heading to Morgantown. Korn was recognized as the 2024 NCBWA Division II National Pitcher of the Year, the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA)/Rawlings Division II National Pitcher of the Year, and D2CCA Pitcher of the Year.
His inclusion on the 2025 FloCollege list, where he ranks second with a stellar 1.81 ERA, underscores his consistency and skill. During his time at Seton Hill, Korn showcased a devastating pitching arsenal, combining a mid-90s fastball with a sharp breaking ball, which helped him dominate opposing lineups.
Korn’s 2024-25 season was nothing short of spectacular. He posted an 11-2 record over 13 starts, allowing just 60 hits in 84.1 innings while striking out 83 batters and issuing only 17 walks.
Joining Korn is Dawson Montesa, a right-handed pitcher from Adelphi University who ranks fourth on the 2025 FloCollege list with an impressive 1.99 ERA. Montesa’s accolades include being named the NE10 Southwest Division Pitcher of the Year and earning spots on the NE10 First Team All-Conference and All-Rookie Team in 2025. He was also named a D2CCA All-American First Team selection.
Last season as a sophomore, Montesa’s impressive 1.99 ERA was over 72.1 innings of work while striking out 105 batters. He had five outings where he struck out over 10 batters. On the season he went 8-1 in 12 games.
