Beanie Bishop’s Pitt Logo Stomp Sparks Social Media Firestorm Between WVU and Pitt Fans

By: Jonathan K. Martin

Former West Virginia cornerback Beanie Bishop has ignited a firestorm on social media, reigniting the fierce rivalry between WVU and Pitt.

A seemingly innocuous moment following a Pittsburgh Steelers practice, Bishop Jr. wiped his feet on the Pitt logo inside the UPMC Rooney Sports Complex, a facility used by both the Steelers and the Pitt Panthers.

Bishop, a standout defensive back for the Mountaineers in 2023 before joining the Steelers as an undrafted free agent, made it clear which side of the Backyard Brawl his allegiance lies.

Bishop recorded 45 tackles and four interceptions during his rookie season with the Steelers.

The 108th edition of the Backyard Brawl between West Virginia and Pitt will take place in Morgantown on Saturday, Sept. 13 at 3:30 pm. The game will be televised on ESPN.
