MANHATTAN, Kan.-After blowing a big lead in game one, No. 12 West Virginia defeated Kansas State 10-3 on Saturday afternoon at Tointon Family Stadium.
Jace Rinehart led the Mountaineers (40-9, 19-5 Big 12) with two hits while Kyle West hit a grand slam.
Chase Meyer made his third start of the season, giving up three runs on three hits in 4.1 innings. Ben McDougal was the story of the afternoon, tossing 4.2 scoreless frames.
Keegan O’Connor led the Wildcats (29-21, 15-11) with two hits.
In the bottom of the first, Kansas State took a 1-0 lead on O’Connor’s base hit up the middle.
However, WVU took a 2-1 lead in the top of the second but Kansas State responded with a two-spot of its own.
In the fourth, the Mountaineers scored six runs to retake the lead. Gavin Kelly tied the game with a base hit to center field. Brodie Kresser hit a ball through the left side, scoring Grant Hussey. With the bases loaded West blasted a grand slam over the right center wall.
WVU added two more runs when Rinehart doubled to right center.
The two teams will meet in the rubber match on Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m. (ET). Jack Kartsonas takes the mound for the Mountaineers.
