MORGANTOWN, W.Va.–West Virginia University’s Logan Sauve has been named to the Buster Posey Award midseason watch list. The award is presented each year to the nation’s most outstanding catcher by the Wichita Sports Commission.
The junior is one of 56 catchers across Division I to be named to the watch list, which was previously called the Johnny Bench Award. It was renamed after the former Florida State catcher and 12-year MLB veteran in 2019.
In 32 games this season, Sauve is hitting .325 with seven home runs, 28 RBI, and 34 runs scored. He has notched eight doubles, a triple, and five stolen bases. Defensively, he has thrown out 25% of would-be base stealers and has not registered a passed ball yet this season.
Sauve is only the fourth WVU catcher to be named to the watch list, joining Alan Filauro (2013), Ray Guerrini (2016), and Ivan Gonzalez (2017). This season, he is one of five catchers from the Big 12 to be named to the watch list.
The semifinalists for the award will be announced on May 19.
