The Long Ball Helps WVU Down Cincinnati on Friday

MORGANTOWN, W.Va.–The West Virginia University baseball team got three home runs from three different players to defeat Cincinnati 6-4 on Friday night at Kendrick Family Ballpark.

Logan Sauve, Jace Rinehart and Grant Hussey all had home runs for the Mountaineers (33-4, 12-3 Big 12).

Jack Natili homered for the Bearcats(21-17, 8-9).

WVU has extended its winning streak to 13 games.

The Mountaineers took a 1-0 lead when Rinehart drove in Kyle West in the bottom of the first.

On Natili’s solo shot to left center Cincinnati evened the game up at 1-1.

In the bottom of the fourth, Chase Swain’s sacrifice fly put WVU back in front 2-1.

Then in the bottom of the fifth, Sauve’s dinger extended the lead 3-1. In the sixth, Hussey and Rinehart followed suit to put the Mountaineers on top 6-1. The Bearcats added a run in the seventh and two in the ninth but Carson Estridge came on and recorded three straight outs to seal the victory.

Reese Bassinger (4-0) picked up the win for WVU and Estridge earned his third save.

The two teams meet on Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. for the series finale.
