West Virginia head coach Steve Sabins announced to the media on Thursday that Chansen Cole will get the start on Friday against Binghamton and Maxx Yehl will go for the Mountaineers on Saturday in game two.
That means Yehl will either pitch in an elimination game or to help WVU stay within the winners bracket against either Kentucky or Wake Forest.
2026 NCAA Morgantown Regional Schedule
Friday, May 29
Game 1: #2 Wake Forest (38-19) vs. #3 Kentucky (31-21) at noon (ESPN2)
Game 2: #1 West Virginia (39-14) vs. #4 Binghamton (30-21) at 5 p.m. (ESPN+)
Saturday, May 30 (TV-TBA)
Game 3: Loser Game 1 vs. Loser Game 2, TBA
Game 4: Winner Game 1 vs. Winner Game 2, TBA
Sunday, May 31 (TV-TBA)
Game 5: Loser Game 4 vs. Winner Game 3, TBA
Game 6: Winner Game 4 vs. Winner Game 5, TBA
Monday, June 1 (TV-TBA)
Game 7: (If necessary) Winner Game 6 vs. Loser Game 6, TBA
If West Virginia were to go 2-0 into Sunday, then whoever they play would have one loss. That means either Kentucky, Wake Forest or Binghamton would need to win their Sunday game and then win two more games with one Sunday night and then the other Monday in order to advance to a Super Regional.
WVU is odd in favorites to win the Morgantown Regional.
On the year, Cole has worked 80 innings with 83 strikeouts and 22 walks. Yehl has worked 79.1 innings with 95 strikeouts and 23 walks.
