Predicting Who West Virginia Will Play in the Morgantown Regional

By: James Gravley | WV Sports Chat

Now that the 16 regional hosts are set, it’s now time to try to attempt — and likely fail — at who the West Virginia Mountaineers will face in the Morgantown Regional.

The selection show will begin at noon on ESPN.

With that, here is who Baseball America has West Virginia paired with.

Baseball America has WVU as the No. 14 seed that will feature Arkansas (17th overall seed), The Citadel and South Dakota State.

D1Baseball also WVU as the No. 14 seed but will feature Ole Miss (18th overall seed), VCU and Rider.

11Point7, in their latest real-time projections has WVU as the No. 12 seed with Wake Forest, Northeastern and St. John’s.

For me, I believe we will see Arkansas landing in the Lincoln (Nebraska) regional.

Here is what my projection looks like.

WVU (13 seed overall) that will feature Ole Miss, Virginia Tech and Holy Cross. I can also see Wake Forest or Tennessee being in the Morgantown Regional bracket as well.

Schuyler Callihan of WVU SI breaks down how the regionals work below:

The winners of games one and two will advance to the winner’s bracket, while the losers will face off in an elimination game on Saturday. The winner of the elimination game will then face the loser of the winner’s bracket matchup in another elimination game. The winner of that will have to beat the 2-0 team twice to advance to the super regionals.
