Steve Sabins Makes Minor Change for Big Series to Close Out the Regular Season

By: James Gravley | WV Sports Chat

This weekend series will be the last Big 12 series before the Big 12 tournament and before regional tournaments kickoff and with that Steve Sabins has made a minor tweak in the pitching rotation ahead of the series finale against TCU.

Instead of using Maxx Yehl, who pitched a complete game last week against Kansas on Thursday, Sabins will instead run out Ian Korn on Thursday night.

On Friday, Yehl will get the start followed by Chansen Cole on Saturday.

This will be Korn’s second start this season for WVU and sits with an ERA of 2.96 over 48.2 innings of work. He has collected 44 strikeouts with just eight walks and 16 runs allowed on 40 hits.

Yehl, who has been stellar all season, poses a 2.04 ERA over 66.1 innings of work. He has 79 strikeouts this season.

Cole, who has been impressive this season for WVU, also had a terrific ERA that sits at 2.71 over 69.2 innings of work. He has 69 strikeouts as well.

WVU currently sits one game back of Kansas in the Big 12 standings. If WVU and Kansas were to tie for a share of the Big 12 regular season championship, then WVU would become the top seed in the Big 12 tournament.
