Ian Korn Set to Make First Start for WVU

With Maxx Yehl being unavailable this weekend, Steve Sabins has made a change in the rotation this weekend with Ian Korn going Friday night, Dawson Montesa going Saturday and the normal Sunday starter remains the same with Chansen Cole.

The No. 12 ranked Mountaineers are looking to bounce back in a major way this weekend after getting rolled by the Pitt Panthers in the midweek.

That game is now in the rear view, but if WVU doesn’t win the series against a very hot Cincinnati team this weekend, it could not only play implications on WVU’s rankings, but their regional rankings as well.

Cincinnati may be 8-10 in the Big 12, but they did just take the series from UCF. Not only that, but the Bearcats can hit the ball as well as they are ranked as the sixth-best offense in the Big 12. Not only that, but the Bearcats, who also have been in regional conversions, has a good pitching staff that is ranked third-best in the Big 12. WVU’s is second-best in the Big 12.

As for Korn, this will be his first start of the year since committed to WVU out of the portal.

In 36.1 innings of work this year for the Mountaineers, Korn has only issues seven walks with 34 strikeouts. He’s also only allowed 32 hits with 13 runs allowed. Out of the bullpen this year Korn has worked a 3-0 record with a 3.22 ERA.

First pitch Friday is scheduled for 5:00 pm and will be streamed on ESPN+.
