In D1Baseball’s latest Field of 64 projections they have the West Virginia Mountaineers locked in as the No. 13 seed hosting a Regional which would also include Oklahoma, Kent State and UConn.

WVU is one of seven Big 12 teams projected to make the Field of 64, but D1Baseball also has Kansas — who would be the No. 16 seed — hosting a Regional which would welcome Mississippi State, NC State and Oral Roberts.

Other Big 12 teams making a Regional are listed below.

• TCU – Auburn Regional

• Arizona State – Gainesville Regional

• UCF – Tuscaloosa Regional

• Cincinnati – Tallahassee Regional

• Kansas State – College Station Regional

In the current Big 12 standings, the top five teams are making the postseason while Baylor (6th) and BYU (7th) are being left out which is ahead of Kansas State who is 8th in the Big 12 standings. Also not being considered for postseason contention is Oklahoma State, who is 9th in the Big 12 standings, but Cincinnati is 10th and is being considered.

A lot of the deciding factors will come down to RPI and how teams finish out the season. The Bearcats are third overall when it comes to RPI in the Big 12 bending leader WVU and second place Kansas. An argument can be made for both Baylor and BYU to make the postseason as both are ranked inside the Top 40 in RPI and in each are ranked inside the top six of the RPI rankings.

With less than half of a season of baseball left, there will be a lot to unfold in the coming weeks, but as of now it seems like the Mountaineers are primed to host a Regional appearance for the first time since 2019.
