LAS VEGAS – Honor Huff led West Virginia in a dramatic comeback to beat Stanford 82-77 in the quarterfinal round of the 2026 College Basketball Crown on Thursday night at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.
Trailing by eight with just 3:21 left in regulation, the Mountaineers (19-14) locked in defensively and chipped away at the deficit, holding Stanford to just one field goal the rest of the way. Huff was fouled on a 3-point attempt and knocked down three clutch free throws with 3.5 seconds left to tie the game at 68 and force overtime.
WVU used that momentum in the extra session, outscoring the Cardinal 14-9 to secure its first overtime win of the year.
Huff led the Mountaineers with 21 points and went 11-of-13 from the charity stripe. Treysen Eaglestaff added 18 points and Brenen Lorient contributed 14 points, seven rebounds and three blocks.
Despite shooting just 2-of-20 from beyond the arc, the Mountaineers made up for it with efficiency inside and at the line. After struggling at the line much of the season, WVU made 22-of-26 free throws and consistently attacked the paint, helping build a 35-29 halftime lead.
Ebuka Okorie poured in a game-high 34 points for Stanford (20-13). Aidan Cammann added 12 points while AJ Rohosy had 10.
The Cardinal appeared in control late when Okorie’s free throws gave them a 67-59 advantage, but a costly foul on Huff’s 3-point attempt in the closing seconds opened the door for the Mountaineers’ comeback. Stanford struggled to respond late, missing its final six field goal attempts and finishing just 1-of-9 from the floor to end the game.
WVU capitalized on turnovers, scoring 18 points on 10 Cardinal miscues.
The Mountaineers advance to Saturday’s semifinal, where they will Creighton at 4 p.m. ET on FOX.
