The Mountaineers were lifted to a win on Friday night thanks to a perfect day at the plate by Paul Schoenfeld who went five-for-five with two RBI in the 12-10 win over BYU.

Schoenfeld also is riding a nine game hitting streak.

Chansen Cole got the start for West Virginia.

Cole only lasted three innings allowing six runs on five hits and striking out six along the way.

His rough outing wasn’t the story.

It was Ian Korn.

Korn four and two thirds allowing just two runs on four hits with seven strikeouts to earn his first win of the season for the Mountaineers. The seven strikeouts was his best on the season. He was pulled after giving up a two-run shot.

Prior to striking out seven on Friday night, his best strikeout performance came against Columbia where he recorded three strikeouts on three innings of work.

David Perez earned the save, his fourth of the season which is tied for first place in the Big 12. He closed the door after pitching just one inning. He also tallied a strikeout.

West Virginia goes for the series sweep on Saturday.
