According to D1 Baseball, West Virginia Mountaineer baseball’s pitching staff is leading the Big 12 Conference in ERA.

Going into their second Big 12 series against BYU on Thursday, the Mountaineer pitchers had a total ERA of 3.14. That’s a whopping .75 runs ahead of the second place team in the rankings, Arizona State.

Maxx Yehl, WVU’s day two starter, is leading the charge for the Mountaineers. He is second among Big 12 pitchers with an ERA of .72. UCF’s Matt Sauser is first at .36.

West Virginia won the opening game in the series against BYU on Thursday. The Mountaineers got a great performance from day one starter Dawson Montesa, who pitched 7 innings, giving up only two runs on three hits. He also struck out seven BYU hitters, while walking none.

It was a great bounce back performance by Montesa, who struggled in his last outing against Baylor in Waco.

Stay tuned here at WV Sports Chat for more on Montesa’s bounce back game.
