Former WVU Football Player Lands First Power Four Coaching Job

Per reports, a former defensive back and legacy player for WVU football is expected to be hired as a defensive assistant by an ACC school. Brandon Napoleon is expected to be hired to coach defensive backs at Syracuse.

Brandon Napoleon’s College Football Playing Career

The former Mountaineer player was brought to Morgantown by Dana Holgorsen as part of the 2012 recruiting class. He redshirted in 2012, before appearing in 10 games in 2013. He played mostly on special teams while also contributing as a reserve cornerback.

The Rahway, New Jersey native transferred to Northern Iowa in 2015 and then finished out his collegiate career with two successful stops at the NAIA level. He played at both Georgetown College (KY) and Kansas Wesleyan.

Brandon Napoleon’s College Football Coaching Career

Coaching, however, is where Napoleon has really taken his career to the next level. After his playing career ended, Napoleon began his coaching career and has ascended at a rapid pace.

A former 247 Sports 30 Under 30 selection, he spent last season as defensive pass game coordinator and defensive backs coach at Wofford. He has also spent time on staffs at Jacksonville State, Rhode Island and Sacred Heart, among others.

Napoleon’s hire at Syracuse was first reported by Matt Zenitz at CBS Sports/247 Sports.

Brandon Napoleon’s Legacy

Napoleon is the son of former WVU running back and successful entrepreneur Eugene Napoleon. His father was part of the 1988 WVU football team that played Notre Dame in the Fiesta Bowl. Eugene Napoleon rushed for 1,001 yards during his three year career in Morgantown.

It should also be noted that Napoleon’s mother, Tracey Napoleon, is a very successful R&B recording artist who performs under the stage name, N’Ya. She has recorded 23 number one hits in her career to-date.
