Morgantown, WV – With just a few days left in the transfer portal window, the West Virginia Mountaineers continue to suffer departures on all three sides of the ball. Earlier this evening, yet another key offensive contributor announced his intentions to enter the portal and leave the WVU football program.

In a post on X, WVU running back Tye Edwards confirmed that he would be entering his name into the portal prior to the closing of the window. Edwards, a transfer from the University of Northern Iowa, only appeared in four games for WVU in 2025. While his playing time was scarce, he made the most of the moment on the biggest stage.

On September 13th, in the Backyard Brawl, the Florida native tallied 25 carries for 141 yards and 3 touchdowns. His efforts were a major component of a massive 31-24 overtime victory for the Mountaineers over the Pitt Panthers. Though he only notched two more carries the rest of the season, Edwards’s impact will be one remembered by fans for years to come.

It is still unknown if Edwards will receive extra eligibility from the NCAA.
