MLB Tabs JJ Wetherholt as Way Too Early Pick for Rookie of the Year

JJ Wetherholt is on the fast track to make his MLB Debut in 2026. The question isn’t about if he will; it’s now about when he will.

Wetherholt, who is the St. Louis Cardinals No. 1 prospect, is now predicted to be the Rookie of the Year for the National League.

Wetherholt, who had an outstanding career at WVU, was the No. 7 overall draft pick in the 2024 MLB Draft.

In his first pro season last year, Wetherholt slashed .306/.421/.510 with an OPS of .931. He also produced a combined 17 home runs and 59 RBI along the way.

Even though he produced solid numbers and even with speculation of him possibly being promoted late in September, Cardinals GM John Mozeliak shut down the rumors of Wetherholt being promoted to the majors in 2025.

With that, I do expect Wetherholt to make the Opening Day roster out of Spring Training.
