STATE COLLEGE, Pa. – Former West Virginia in-state recruit and Penn State edge rusher Daniel Jennings has announced he will be entering the transfer portal.
The 6-foot-1, 249-pound freshman had WVU football in his final two before eventually committing to Penn State as part of the 2025 recruiting class.
The Princeton, West Virginia native reclassified from the 2026 recruiting class to the 2025 class in order to head to State College a year early.
Per a report by 247 Sports, the former four-star recruit is no longer with the Nittany Lions program and will “explore options elsewhere.” This just a few months after Penn State decided to move on from James Franklin, who recruited Jennings to Happy Valley.
Another young Penn State edge rusher will explore options elsewhere. Freshman DE Daniel Jennings is no longer with the program, @Lions247 has learned.

Jennings re-classified from the 2026 recruiting class to enroll this summer. More details here 👇https://t.co/Husa630b7V
During his junior year at Princeton Senior High School, Jennings was a key contributor on a team that made it to the state semifinals. On the defensive side of the ball, he accumulated 10 sacks and 12.5 tackles-for-loss. He was just as explosive on the offensive side of the ball. As a running back, he rushed for 1,373 yards and 23 touchdowns.
Listed as the top player in the state of West Virginia and a top 200 recruit overall in the 2026 class, Jennings was highly recruited. After reclassifying to the 2025 class, he became the number 30 overall edge rusher in the class (per 247 Sports).
The transfer portal does not officially open until January 2nd, but it seems unlikely that Rich Rodriguez and the Mountaineers land Jennings. Sources indicate that he will likely follow Franklin to Virginia Tech. Not only will that allow the young star to stay with the coach who recruited him, it would also get him closer to home. Virginia Tech is located in Blacksburg, Virginia, which is only a one hour drive from Jennings’ home in Princeton.
