BREAKING: WVU Down Another Experienced Running Back

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – For the second time today, the WVU backfield appears to be taking a hit. According to Pete Nakos at On3, Mountaineer running back Diore Hubbard reportedly plans to enter the transfer portal. This follows a report earlier in the day regarding Jahiem White.

Hubbard finished the season as WVU football’s starting running back after injuries sidelined both White and Tye Edwards for the season. He ended the year as the team’s leading rusher with 335 yards on 96 carries (3.5 avg). He also scored four touchdowns on the ground. He was active in the pass game as well, catching 16 passes for 156 yards.

The 5-foot-10 inch 190-pound redshirt freshman was recruited to West Virginia by Neal Brown and the previous coaching staff, but decided to remain in Morgantown after Rich Rodriguez was hired.

Rodriguez signed five running backs on National Signing Day, including four-star high school star Amari Latimer, who Rich Rodriguez and his staff were able to flip from Wisconsin. They also added JUCO transfer Martavious Boswell, who ran for over 1,000 yards at Copiah-Lincoln Community College. Other high school signees were SirPaul Cheeks, Chris Talley, and Lawrence Autry.

Unless we see reports of other running backs who plan to enter the portal, the running backs who remain from last season are: Cyncir Bowers, Clay Ash and Tyler Jacklich.
