MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – It has been an exciting day so far inside the WVU football facility. Rich Rodriguez and his staff continue to sign high school players from around the country and several more are expected to ink a National Letter of Intent with the Mountaineers.
The biggest haul of the day, though, will likely be former Penn State commit, Matt Sieg. The four-star safety reopened his recruitment after the firing of James Franklin. As of last week, he had narrowed his choices down to Pitt, Notre Dame, Indiana, and Virginia Tech.
However, West Virginia made a late push for the 5-foot-11.5-inch WPIAL star and was able to land the plane at the last minute.
The McDonald, Pennsylvania native is listed as a top 200 player according to the 247 Sports Composite. He’s the number 16 safety in the class and number five player in the state of Pennsylvania.
Sieg, who attends Fort Cherry High School, holds WPIAL records for most touchdowns in a career and most all-purpose yards in a career.
He made the announcement that he was committing to WVU live on CBS Sports’ YouTube channel earlier today.
