Just hours after JUCO wide receiver Keon Hutchins backed off his pledge, West Virginia suffered another decommitment of the 2026 cycle when Orlando (Fla.) Evans cornerback Emari Peterson announced he was reopening his recruitment.
Peterson made the announcement on Twitter/X.
I would like to Thank God and Everyone on The West Virginia Coaching staff For giving Me an opportunity. I have Decommited from the University of West Virginia
The 6-foot, 185-pound Peterson had been committed to the Mountaineers since June 28, choosing WVU over finalists Kentucky, Illinois, UCF, and Louisville, among others.
According to the 247Sports Composite, Peterson is the No. 127 cornerback nationally in the 2026 class and the No. 150 overall prospect in the state of Florida.
