Former WVU Wide Receiver Calls Out Current Player

Controversy arose on social media after West Virginia’s 49-0 loss to Texas Tech on Saturday in Morgantown.

The controversy stemmed from a video that surfaced of WVU wide receiver Cam Vaughn. The video showed Vaughn not hustling to make a tackle after a pass intended for him was intercepted by a Texas Tech defender.

The video had Mountaineer fans debating the effort on social media. Many fans criticized the Jacksonville State transfer, while others came to his defense.

One person that did not come to his defense was someone who has worn the Mountaineer uniform, and even played the same position as Vaughn.

Former Mountaineer receiver Shelton Gibson was not happy with Vaughn’s lack of effort on the play. Below is the post Gibson shared on X (formerly Twitter). It includes the video in question.

Gibson played three seasons at West Virginia under Dana Holgorsen from 2014-2016, before declaring for the NFL Draft after the 2016 season. The Ohio native was drafted in the 5th round of the 2017 NFL Draft by the Philadelphia Eagles. He spent three seasons in Philadelphia, winning a Super Bowl with the franchise in 2018.

During his time in Morgantown, Gibson played in 38 games, accumulating 84 receptions for 1,898 yards and 17 touchdowns. He averaged 22.6 yards per catch in his Mountaineer career.
