One of the most prolific names in the football recruiting circle has now come alive after locking down his recruitment earlier this year.
Chris Henry Jr., who is the son of late Mountaineer, Chris Henry, is now rumored to be considering flipping his commitment from Ohio State to another team. That team? West Virginia.
According to On3, the Mountaineers are now making a very strong push to flip Henry from the Buckeyes to the Mountaineers. Also, the Buckeyes were at one point given an around 96 percent chance of bringing Henry in, they now sit at just 30.8 percent.
The other team making a strong push is the Oregon Ducks. The Ducks have been in the mix for a while now.
Henry has been committed to the Buckeyes since late July of 2023.
West Virginia has shown aggressive pursuit while quietly flipping multiple recruits this November with coach Rich Rodriguez. Such as four-star offensive tackle Kevin Brown, who was committed to Penn State but recently flipped that commitment to the Mountaineers.
Another key factor in this decision for Henry will be the financial stability within the NIL. Currently his NIL valuation stands at $565,000. So, Ohio State, Oregon and WVU will need to cough up a lump sum over $100,000-$250,000 to get his commitment. And according to reports, Oregon and WVU are both willing to make a significant offer if it means landing Henry.
Henry has now removed anything related to Ohio State off of his social media accounts. That however does not mean that he won’t stay committed to the Buckeyes, but likely means we won’t know anything until Early National Signing Day on December 3 thru December 5.
Here’s the thing though, under this new regime at WVU, Henry has yet to take an official visit on campus although he has been on campus in the past. That doesn’t really favor WVU — at least not right now.
Prediction meter (1-5), 1 being no shot, to 5 being a full lock: WVU’s chance of landing Henry, just because of the smoke now around WVU football and Henry, for me personally is now at 2.8 out of 5.
