West Virginia has landed a verbal commitment from one of the nation’s premier junior college running backs.

Martavious “Tay” Boswell, a dynamic speedster from Copiah-Lincoln Community College in Wesson, Mississippi, announced his decision to join the Mountaineers on Monday, capping off a successful official visit to Morgantown over the weekend.

The 5-foot-10, 170-pound Texas native – originally from the Dallas-Fort Worth area – becomes the third running back in WVU’s star-studded 2026 recruiting class and the first from the JUCO ranks.

Boswell isn’t just any recruit; he’s a verified track star turned gridiron weapon. Holding personal bests of 10.36 seconds in the 100-meter dash and a blistering 4.32-second 40-yard dash, his elite athleticism translates seamlessly to the football field. In the 2025 season at Co-Lin CC, Boswell exploded for 1,109 rushing yards and 13 touchdowns on just 131 carries – an eye-popping 8.5 yards per tote. That performance earned him MACCC Offensive Player of the Year honors and cemented his status as ESPN’s No. 2 junior college running back in the country.

Rated as a three-star prospect by 247Sports (with an 86 composite score), Boswell ranks as the third-best tailback in the 2026 JUCO cycle and the 41st overall player at that level. His ability to hit the home run – evidenced by his breakaway speed and vision – makes him a perfect fit for Rodriguez’s up-tempo, spread offense, which emphasizes explosive plays and quick-strike opportunities.
