Wren Baker Releases Statement After WVU Fan Incident at Soccer Game

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The WVU men’s soccer team lost in heartbreaking fashion to Marshall in the Sun Belt Conference Semifinals on Wednesday night. The final score was 3-2 and the match ended on a penalty kick by the Thundering Herd. The kick was awarded after a controversial handball call in the box against the Mountaineers.

After the match, emotions were high and Marshall players were celebrating with Herd fans who attended the event at Dick Dlesk Stadium in Morgantown.

During the celebration, a WVU fan was seen shoving a Marshall player off the railing. The event was caught on video and of course, caused a stir on social media.

On Thursday, West Virginia Athletic Director Wren Baker released a statement on X (formerly Twitter). It can be seen below.
