Following West Virginia’s decisive 71-49 victory over Pittsburgh, head basketball coach Ross Hodge took a moment during his postgame press conference to honor the memory of Steve Lipscomb, a 42-year-old coal miner who tragically lost his life in an incident at the Rolling Thunder Mine earlier this week.
Hodge’s heartfelt tribute highlights the deep connection between the University and the mining community, reflecting the values and sacrifices that define West Virginia.
Hodge noted that one of his first acts as head coach for the Mountaineers was to take his team to a coal mine – in an effort to show them the hard work and sacrifice made daily by coal miners.
Following WVU's 71-49 win over Pittsburgh, Ross Hodge opened his postgame press conference extending condolences to the family of Steve Lipscomb. Lipscomb passed away after an accident in a Nicholas County mine.
