Ross Hodge and the West Virginia Mountaineers have turned their attention to a unique prospect: 22-year-old former G-League forward Kok Yat.
According to a recent report by Joe Tipton of On3, Yat, a 6-foot-8 athletic forward, is exploring a return to college basketball after several seasons in the professional ranks, and West Virginia is among the schools showing keen interest in his services.
Others involved are Louisville, Xavier, Providence and San Francisco.
Kok Yat’s journey to this point has been anything but conventional. Once a highly regarded recruit out of Norcross High School in Georgia, Yat was a four-star prospect in the class of 2021, drawing offers from powerhouse programs like Kansas, TCU, and Georgia before committing to DePaul.
However, he opted to forgo the traditional college route, instead joining Overtime Elite and later entering the NBA G-League, where he played for teams affiliated with the Dallas Mavericks and Minnesota Timberwolves.
Now, thanks to updated NCAA guidelines in the post-NIL era, Yat is eligible to return to college basketball and the Mountaineers are actively involved.
