Nicco Marchiol Starting Against RMU

By: James Gravley | WV Sports Chat

The wait is over.

West Virginia football is back. Rich Rodriguez is back in Morgantown. And a new starting quarterback on Saturday for WVU against RMU.

Rodriguez, for weeks stated that no one would know who the starting quarterback would be up until roughly an hour or so before kickoff. Speculation all week lingered that Nicco Marchiol would get the start over Jaylen Henderson, who transferred in from Texas A&M.

Marchiol enters this game tabbed as the No. 1 guy against RMU, but that could easily change as the season progresses. Just because he’s the guy now, doesn’t mean he will be for the entire season.

I’m not saying Marchiol is under close watch by the WVU football staff, but I am saying he’s not on the longest leash either. A few mistakes or game-losing drives and his No. 1 spot as WVU’s lead QB in charge could be over as quickly as it started.

Kickoff is set for 2 pm on ESPN+.
