Doug Nester Released by the Steelers

Former West Virginia offensive lineman, Doug Nester, has been released by the Pittsburgh Steelers.

The news of Nester’s release broke on Friday afternoon.

Let’s be honest though; Nester did not have a successful preseason with the Steelers.

Nester, who started his collegiate career with Virginia Tech spent two seasons with the Hokies prior to transferring to West Virginia.

He started in every game for the Mountaineers in 2021 and 2022 as the team’s starting right guard. His senior season, he made the transition to right tackle and appeared in all 12 games, starting in 11 of those games.

There may be a team that needs some extra help on its practice squad this season and that could be where Nester winds up. Unfortunately, it seems unlikely the Kenova, WV native will see extensive playing time in an actual NFL game.
