West Virginia baseball has secured a commitment from class of 2027 left-handed pitcher Mason McGill.

McGill announced his commitment on social media.

“I am so proud to announce my verbal commitment to @ WVUBaseball !! It has been an amazing journey leading up to this point, and I am ready to work even harder than before !! LETS GO MOUNTAINEERS”

McGill, who is from Hedgesville, W.Va., is ranked the No. 1 player in the state of West Virginia for the class of 2027 according to Perfect Game. They also consider him the 69th best left-handed prospect in the class and the No. 500 prospect overall.

West Virginia head coach Steve Sabins played a huge role in his commitment, along with the opportunity to stay home and represent the state of West Virginia.

“Coach Sabins has been following me for a while and has shown interest in me this whole year,” McGill told WV Sports Chat. “That made me feel wanted and the best part for me is that I wanted to play for and represent my state. I’m very excited and can’t wait to get after it.”

The commitment from McGill comes just after the Mountaineers landed a verbal pledge from another southpaw in the 2027 class, Nolan Wilson.
