The Kansas City Royals announced that they have acquired a pair San Diego Padres pitchers in exchange for catcher Freddy Fermin.
One of the two pitchers acquired by the Padres is former Mountaineer pitcher Ryan Bergert along with Stephen Kolek.

Bergert, who is still in rookie season, has worked 35.2 innings owning a 2.78 ERA with 34 strikeouts and 18 walks allowed this season.
There is no timeline on when Bergert will make his Royals debut.
He last pitched for the Padres on July 29, working four innings with four strikeouts and four walks allowed. He also gave up one run on two hits in the Padres 7-1 win over the New York Mets.
