Reese Bassinger has confirmed with WV Sports Chat that he will be returning to WVU for one final season.
Speculation ran rapid when Bassinger, who still had a year of eligibility remaining, made a post on X talking about his tenure at WVU.

Back in June, Bassinger told WV Sports Chat that he was going to see how the MLB Draft played out and see what his options were even after the draft, but the overall expectation was he would finish his collegiate career at WVU.
“I’ll see how the draft goes but my college career will be played here if I decide to stay in college,” said Bassinger.
And on Tuesday night, Bassinger confirmed that he would in fact remain at WVU with a subtle — yet loud message — “I’m coming back, let’s win a championship” in a message to WV Sports Chat.
Bassinger knows exactly what this team is built for heading into the 2026 campaign and says it is a lot of guys with a lot to prove. That winning is the ultimate goal.
“It’s full of a lot of guys who have a lot to prove, and we want to prove it together as a team. The [team goal] is to be as close knit of a group as we can be and see how far we can take it.”
But when it comes to the individual goal for himself, Bassinger, who remained humble in his response, noted being a teammate first is what is important.
“Individual goal is to be the best teammate I can be in what could potentially be my last year of baseball,” he said.
As far as starting in the rotation or coming out of the bullpen, Bassinger said that was unclear at this time, but would do whatever it takes to help the team win.
“As of right now to my understanding it could be either just depends on what we need. I’ve played at a lot of places and I just want to win as many games as we can,” Bassinger said.
What we do know is that Bassinger, and his teammates aren’t looking to just make a Super Regional — or even hosting it — that’s not the ultimate goal. The ultimate goal is to win. Advance to Omaha. And win a College World Series title.
That’s the ultimate goal.
And they are on the right track to do so.
