MORGANTOWN, W.Va.- West Virginia University extended head baseball coach Steve Sabins’ contract through the 2031 season.
His new deal is for about $3.675 million and includes significant raises every year.
When former head coach Randy Mazey retired, Sabins was named the 20th coach of the Mountaineers. In his first season at the helm, the Austin, Texas native took WVU to new heights.
Sabins led the Mountaineers to a 44-16 overall record while winning the Big 12 regular season title and advancing to the NCAA Super Regionals for the second consecutive season. WVU was in the top 25 throughout the year and finished in the top 15 in multiple polls at the end of the season.
Sabins was named the ABCA East Region Coach of the Year, which was the sixth time that a WVU head coach has earned the honor.
Under Sabins, several players received national accolades, including four players being named All-Big 12 – Griffin Kirn (1st Team), Logan Sauve (1st), Jack Kartsonas (2nd), and Kyle West (2nd). Sam White was also named to the ABCA All-East Region First Team.
Five Mountaineers were selected in the 2025 MLB Draft under Sabins and two signed with MLB franchises as free agents.
During his time in Morgantown, Sabins has been a significant recruiter for WVU, bringing in some of the program’s highest-ranked recruiting classes.
