CHARLESTON, W.Va- Tobi Okani sank a pair of free throws to seal the win as Best Virginia defeated DuBois Dream, 72-69, on Friday night to advance to the second round of TBT.
James Reese V led Best Virginia with 21 points. Tre Mitchell had 13 points and 5 rebounds. Kedrian Johnson added 10 and Okani finished with nine points and 11 rebounds.
In the first quarter the two teams were neck and neck before Best Virginia took control in the second quarter. At the half Best Virginia led 39-25.
Reese hit his first 3-of-4 from beyond the arc in the first half.
The third quarter was controlled by Best Virginia, who led by as many as 17 points. However, in the fourth, Best Virginia couldn’t solve DuBois Dream’s press, leading to a 17-2 run heading into the Elam ending.
Best Virginia’s woes continued during the Elam ending, Jarrod West Sr. called timeout with none remaining, sending DuBois Dream to the line to shoot technical fouls.
Shane Hunter put DuBois Dream up 69-65 and things looked grim for Best Virginia.
Free throws and Mitchell’s clutch lay-up made it 69-68 and Best Virginia got a stop at the other end. Then Mitchell’s tip-in gave Best Virginia the lead.
Once again Best Virginia got a stop at the other end and Okani was fouled, setting the stage for his heroic win.
