Jack Kartsonas was projected to go later in the rounds of the 2025 MLB Draft, however the former Mountaineer pitcher did not hear his name called over the two-day draft.
Instead, on Monday, he signed a free agent deal with the Tampa Bay Rays as an undrafted free agent.
Kartsonas entered his lone season with WVU as the expected bullpen guy, but as the season progressed he worked hisself into the starting rotation for Steve Sabins and his staff.
Even though he did not make his first start with the Mountaineers until late in April, he worked 66.1 inning, with a 3.66 ERA and had a K/BB ratio of 77/20 during that span.
The one good thing about the Rays’ organization is that they can develop pitchers into stronger pitchers and Kartsonas, who is a sponge on the diamond, will literally be the perfect and ideal fit for the Rays pitching staff in the future.
Kartsonas earned All-Big 12 Second Team and ABCA All-East Region Second Team honors.
