Former WVU Star Mike Gansey Receives Contract Extension as Cavs General Manager

Former West Virginia forward Mike Gansey received a contract extension as the Cleveland Cavaliers’ general manager on Monday.

Since stepping into the GM role in 2022, Mike Gansey has overseen the Cavaliers’ front office operations. He has been with the Cleveland organization since 2017.

Previously, the Olmsted Falls, Ohio native worked in front office leadership roles with the Cleveland Charge from 2012-17 and was named 2016-17 NBA G League Executive of the Year.

Last season the Cavaliers were the top seed in the Eastern Conference after finishing with a 64-18 overall record in the regular season. In the post season, they made the conference semifinals but lost the series to the Indiana Pacers 4-1.

Since Gansey took over as general manager of the Cavaliers, Cleveland has compiled a 163–83 record and reached the Eastern Conference semifinals in each of the past two seasons

Gansey was a member of the Mountaineers from 2003 until 2006. In 2005-06, he led WVU in scoring (16.8), rebounding (5.7), steals (62), rebounds (189), field goal percentage (55.0) and 3-point field goal percentage (42.9).
