Bryson Thacker entered the transfer portal while his season with Johnson City in the Appalachian League was just getting started.
It didn’t take long for him to find a home and commit to the Mountaineers.
As for Thacker’s time in the Appalachian League, he is rated as a top pitcher in the league where 97 pitchers qualify for the result sheet.
Thacker has worked 19.1 innings with a 0.47 ERA and over that span he has started in five games allowing two runs on nine hits while striking out 24 and walking just nine.
The 24 strikeouts is good enough for fifth best in the league.
Thacker gives credit to the Appalachian League to really help him with his throwing after Tommy John surgery, also noting that the league is filled with great competition.
“The appy league has been an awesome opportunity for me especially with it really being my first season off of Tommy John,” he said. “It’s [Appalachian League] great competition and it’s been great to be able to get into a starter role and dominate.”
Thacker, as long as he remains healthy, should earn a starting role in the rotation for the Mountaineers next season. If not, expect him to be used heavily out of the pen for Steve Sabins and his staff.
