Another commit has landed in favor of Steve Sabins and his Mountaineers’ baseball club.

On Wednesday, Colton Sims announced his commitment to the Mountaineers.

According to Aria Gerson, who covers Vanderbilt for the Tennessean, she states that Sims was once committed to the SEC powerhouse Vanderbilt and chose to flip to WVU. She replied to a question about if his flip was a good or bad loss for Vandy and this was her response.

“Neutral, he wasn’t likely to play much in 2026 and it’s hard for those types of guys in the 34-man roster limit era.”

In the Appalachian League this summer Sims has appeared in 12 games with 44 plate appearances. He has three hits, two doubles, five runs and a slash line of .086/.273/.143 and an on base percentage of .416.

The 19-year-old will be battling for a role in the lineup next season, but will likely see a lot of action coming off of the bench in 2026.
