BATON ROUGE, La. – The West Virginia University baseball team was defeated 12-6 by LSU on Sunday night in the Baton Rogue Super Regionals at Alex Box Stadium, marking the end of an incredible season.

Sam White and Ben Lumsden both had a home run and two RBI for the Mountaineers (44-16). Jace Rinehart also had a home run.

Jack Kartsonas (6-4) suffered the loss in one of his worst outings. He gave up six runs on five hits and walked four in just two innings.

Chase Meyer relieved Kartsonas and pitched four innings, surrendering one earned run on two hits and Ben McDougal tossed 2.1 hitless innings.

The Tigers (48-15) advance to Omaha to take on Arkansas in the College World Series.

Anthony Eyanson (11-2) earned the win. He gave up four runs on five hits and struck out seven.

LSU jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first but things imploded in the second when the Tigers tacked on five more runs to take a 6-0 lead.

However, WVU never backed downed. In the fourth, White got the Mountaineers on the board with a solo shot to right center. Then Lumsden hit a two-run home run to cut the deficit to 6-3.

In the fifth, White’s base hit to left field pulled WVU within two but that was as close as they would get.

Defensive woes plagued the Mountaineers in the seventh as three errors led to six LSU runs. Five of those were unearned.

In the eighth, Rinehart hit a solo home run over the left center wall but the Mountaineers ran out of gas.
