HUNTINGTON, W.Va.–The West Virginia University baseball team came from behind to beat in-state rival Marshall 5-4 on Tuesday night at Jack Cook Field.

With the score tied at 4-4 in the top of the ninth, Chase Swain walked and advanced to second on Hussey’s sacrifice bunt. He moved up an additional 90 feet on a wild pitch. With two strikes on the batter and two outs in the inning, Swain bolted for home and dove head first without a throw to give the Mountaineers a 5-4 lead.

Carson Estridge struck out the side in the bottom half of the inning to seal the game. Hussey drove in two runs for WVU.

The Mountaineers improve to 31-4 on the season while the Thundering Herd fell to 18-19.

Swain had one hit, walked, stole a base and scored three runs in the win.

Hussey’s two-run double gave WVU a 2-0 lead in the top of the second but Marshall would tie the game in the bottom of the frame.

The Herd scored an additional run in the fourth and fifth to retake a 4-2 lead.

In the top of the seventh, Brodie Kresser’s base hit down the right field line scored Swain. Then Gavin Kelly’s single up the middle plated Kresser to tie the game.

The Mountaineers are 19-1 on the road this season. The win solidifies that WVU will take the season series with one game remaining.

The Mountaineers return home for a three-game series against Cincinnati on Thursday night.
