On Tuesday, West Virginia 2025 signee Evan Powell announced he was flipping his commitment from WVU football to East Carolina. This is the third time Powell has changed his mind since the coaching change from Neal Brown to Rich Rodriguez. Powell withdrew his commitment to West Virginia after the termination of Brown. However, he decided to ultimately sign his National Letter of Intent on Dec. 8.
A three-star edge rusher from Huntingtown, Maryland, Powell was the No. 40 player out of Maryland and the No. 109 defensive lineman in the country, according to 247Sports. The 6-foot-3 245 pounder recorded 128 tackles, 22 sacks, and 38 tackles for loss the past two seasons.
He helped Huntingtown to a 10-3 record last season. They eventually fell to Decatur in the State Championship game by the score of 13-12.
Powell is a dual-sport athlete and participates in multiple events for the school’s track team. He will report to East Carolina in the summer with his brother, who also plays for the Pirates.
