Tenner followed former head coach Darian DeVries to Morgantown. DeVries had previously recruited him to Drake. The 6 foot guard out of Memphis was named Mr. Basketball in the state of Tennessee during his senior season at Cordova High School. That’s the award given to the state’s top prep player.
Tenner averaged about 13 minutes per game for WVU. He appeared in 30 games on the season and averaged 2.4 points and 1.1 assists per game on 35% shooting from the floor. Tenner played the back up point guard roll behind All-Big 12 performer, Javon Small, but was often on the floor with Small to allow the 18.5 point per game scorer to move more freely and avoid double teams.
Tenner becomes the third Mountaineer player to enter the portal this offseason. Fellow guards Jonathan Powell and Tucker DeVries announced last week they planned to enter the portal.
Powell, A 6 feet 6 inch guard from Dayton, Ohio averaged 8.3 points and 3.1 rebounds a game for the Mountaineers. The freshman played in all 32 games, averaging 30.1 minutes per contest. Powell was a three-point specialist who shot 35.2% from behind the three-point line on the season.
DeVries averaged 14.9 points per game on 47.3% shooting from three-point range. He played in only eight games before sitting out the remainder of the season with a shoulder injury. The senior from Waukee, Iowa will apply for a medical redshirt and it’s assumed he will follow his coach and father, Darian, to Indiana. (Darian) DeVries was named the Head Coach at Indiana on Wednesday, March 19.
